Stretch marks
Stretch marks, also known as striae, are streaks or lines that develop on the skin’s surface when it undergoes rapid stretching, commonly during pregnancy or growth spurts.
They result from the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibers in the skin. Initially, they appear red or purple and may fade to a silvery-white color over time. While they are harmless, various treatments, including topical creams, laser therapy, and microneedling, can help reduce their appearance. Prevention through maintaining skin elasticity and hydration is essential, but managing stretch marks often requires a tailored approach based on individual factors.
